Unallocated water

Unallocated water is water that can technically be made available for future consumptive use by urban, rural or industrial sectors without compromising the environment or the security of supply to existing water users. In April 2004 the Queensland Government released a set of policy principles to guide the future release of unallocated water.

Great Artesian Basin

There are unallocated general reserves of water in the Great Artesian Basin, which the Department of Natural Resources and Water intends to make available.
