Water resource plan history

The Fitzroy Basin water allocation and management plan, now known as the Fitzroy Basin water resource plan, was finalised in 1999. Since then it has been amended to address overland flow water management.

The amendment (listed under the Water Act 2000, Water Resource (Fitzroy Basin) Plan 1999 ) was finalised on 22 July 2005.

Amalgamation of planning processes 

On 19 December 2008, the minister announced his intention to amalgamate the previously separate planning processes to amend the Water Resource (Fitzroy Basin) Plan 1999. The process to amend the water resource plan to include groundwater in the Callide subcatchment and in the Isaac-Connors catchment will be amalgamated with the process to review and replace the water resource plan.

Three public notices were published on 19 December 2008, which explain the amalgamation of the planning processes.

Fitzroy Basin water resource plan review and replacement

On 6 June 2008, the minister announced his intention to prepare a Fitzroy Basin draft water resource plan to replace the Water Resource (Fitzroy Basin) Plan 1999. Water resource plans are subordinate legislation and it is necessary to review and replace plans prior to the end of a plan's 10 year life. Community reference panel

Fitzroy Basin water resource plan draft amendment Isaac-Connors catchment and Callide subcatchment

On 15 December 2006, the minister announced his intention to amend the Fitzroy water resource plan Isaac-Connors catchment and Callide subcatchment. Information reports and summary brochures are available:

Revision two of the Fitzroy Basin ROP was released in July 2009.

Resource operations plan amendment

A draft amendment to the Fitzroy Basin Resource Operations Plan was released in August 2007 for public comment. Issues raised in the submissions received were considered during development of the final Fitzroy Basin Resource Operations Plan amendment. The final amendment was approved on 9 July 2009 and will provide Fitzroy water users with greater flexibility in how they manage their water allocations. The key amendment to the ROP allows water allocation holders in the Nogoa-Mackenzie Water Supply Scheme to convert their allocations from medium to high priority.
