Help with generating a species list for a selected area
- Species - Select either the animals or plants option unless you wish to have a list of all the wildlife recorded for the area selected. The plants option also includes fungi and protists. The wildlife database currently only contains records of plants, fungi, protists, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, freshwater fish, cartilaginous marine fish (sharks and rays) and butterflies.
- Type - Select native or introduced unless you wish to have a list of all wildlife recorded for the area selected. Native species are those that naturally occur in Queensland. Introduced species are those that naturally occur interstate or overseas but have naturalised and now occur in Queensland in the wild.
- Status - Select the rare and threatened species option to obtain a list of species that are currently listed as rare or threatened under the Nature Conservation Act 1992. Rare and threatened species include those that are listed as presumed extinct, endangered, vulnerable or rare wildlife. The all option will list all of the wildlife recorded for the area selected including rare and threatened, least concern and unprotected species including introduced species.
- Records - Select confirmed or specimens unless you wish to have a list derived from all of the records for the selected area. The confirmed option includes records that are confirmed, verified by an expert, collected or specimen-backed. The specimens option includes only those records that are specimen-backed and generally stored in a curated collection such as a museum or herbarium.
- Only one area name from the protected area, forestry area or local government area drop lists can be selected for each wildlife search.
- The protected areas listed are the national parks, conservation parks, resources reserves and forest reserves of Queensland gazetted under the Nature Conservation Act 1992.
- The forestry areas listed are the State forests and timber reserves of Queensland gazetted under the Forestry Act 1959.
- The local government areas listed are the shire councils, city councils and aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of Queensland.
- Email address - Please check that your email address is correct as requests processed for invalid addresses may not be able to be redirected.
- Output - The PDF option results in a file being sent that is suitable for printing. The Text file (tab delimited) option results in a file being sent that can be formatted by the user using software such as MS Word or MS Excel.

- Species - Select either the animals or plants option unless you wish to have a list of all the wildlife recorded for the area selected. The plants option also includes fungi and protists. The confirmed option includes records that are confirmed, verified by an expert, collected or specimen-backed. The specimens option includes only those records that are specimen-backed and generally stored in a curated collection such as a museum or herbarium.
- Date - The wildlife database contains historical records from early European visitation to Queensland in the 1700s. To obtain a species list based only on recent records select the since 1980 option.
- Provide two latitudes and two longitudes for each wildlife search. The coordinates relate to the top right corner and the bottom left corner of a bounding box centred on your area of interest.
- Latitude - The latitude boxes are formatted to accept decimal degrees that occur within Queensland (i.e. 9 to 30) as a two-digit integer with up to four decimal places (e.g. 29.4125). The negative symbol is automatically added to the latitude.
- Longitude - The longitude boxes accept decimal degrees that occur with Queensland (i.e. 138 to 156) as a three-digit integer with up to four decimal places (e.g. 154.5086).
- If your latitude and longitude coordinates are in degrees, minutes and seconds (e.g. 154° 30' 31"), use the degrees calculator at the top right of the Wildlife Online screen to convert them into a decimal degrees format (e.g. 154.5086).
- The maximum size of the bounding box that can be searched is 0.67 degrees (about 40 minutes). The minimum size of the bounding box that can be provided is 0.02 degrees (about one minute).
- Email address - Please check that your email address is correct as requests processed for invalid addresses may not be able to be redirected.
