About the park

David Fleay Wildlife Park is a conservation park dedicated to the memory of naturalist Dr David Fleay. It is located next to Tallebudgera Creek on West Burleigh Road, West Burleigh on Queensland's Gold Coast.

The department manages this park to enable people to see some of our native animals and raise community awareness about the need to protect them, especially threatened species.

The park includes an animal hospital for sick, injured and orphaned animals. Each year more than 1500 animals are rehabilitated and released back into the wild.

Visitors can explore the park from the safety of boardwalks. Fences are unobtrusive and animals are kept in settings as close as possible to their natural homes.

Four distinct habitats have been developed to display the animals: wetland, rainforest, mangrove and open eucalypt forest.

A valuable asset to the department, David Fleay Wildlife Park combines community education, ecotourism, wildlife conservation and research.

The Friends of Fleays are volunteers from the local community who are closely involved in the park's operations and conduct guided tours for visitors.

The park opens from 9am to 5pm seven days a week, every day of the year except Christmas Day, and Anzac Day morning.
