Record keeping

It is important to keep accurate details about your animal, as these are helpful in assessing the animal's progress, possible reasons for health problems and potential release sites and will be useful for future reference.

Records should include the following information:

  • the date animal was found;
  • where it was found;
  • species;
  • estimated age and weight;
  • injuries and their possible causes;
  • date of release;
  • method of release;
  • release site;
  • feed intake;
  • body measurements;
  • toileting;
  • unusual behaviour;
  • diet; and
  • veterinary care.
