Longer term care
The long-term care of injured wildlife can be both time-consuming and expensive and each species has particular requirements. Once you have a permit or licence to care for a native animal from the QPWS and the animal's condition has stabilised, you will be able to care for the animal until it can be returned to the wild.
When you obtain a rehabilitation permit, the QPWS will give you the name of a person who has experience caring for the type of animal you are looking after. These carers will be able to teach and advise you on how to look after the animal. It is also a good idea to read about the species.
Over time you will realise that there is probably no single right way to do things. Each carer and each book that you read may give you slightly different information. You will discover which methods work as you become more experienced.
