Xanthorrhoea review report

The report reviews current knowledge for xanthorrhoeas (grasstrees) with a focus on Xanthorrhoea johnsonii and X. latifolia, two Queensland protected plants-in-trade.

Prior to the publication of this report both focus species have been extensively harvested in Queensland for foliage and whole plants. The report includes the distribution, biology, ecology, usage, impact of harvesting and land management practices, threats and conservation of the two focus species.

Similar topic areas are covered for xanthorrhoeas generally. There is a listing of invertebrates and vertebrates known to be associated with xanthorrhoeas. An assessment is made of the ecological sustainability of harvesting xanthorrhoeas in Queensland. A number of management and research recommendations are presented in relation to harvesting of and threats to Queensland xanthorrhoeas.
