Lighthouse Waterwise Schools of Excellence
After six months or more as a registered Waterwise School, you can apply to become a Lighthouse Waterwise School of Excellence.
To qualify, you must have continued to implement the Water: Learn it for life! program and demonstrated ongoing improvement in your water saving attitudes and behaviour.
You must also have:
- updated details of your ‘teacher champion’
- provided an updated curriculum plan** showing that you have incorporated the Water: Learn it for life! program across at least three year levels (with at least one unit per year level)
- provided evidence that you have been implementing the program for one year or more
- reviewed and reported on your school action plan (PDF, 429K)* for reducing water consumption
- provided updated water meter readings**
- repeated in-class surveys (PDF, 21K)* of students
- redistributed a home water audit (PDF, 445K)* (Survey results should show support for water efficiency measures.)
- completed a teacher feedback survey on the program
- submitted any other evidence that demonstrates your school's increased awareness or responsibility for water use.

Formal recognition
Formal recognition means that you will be registered on the Water: Learn it for life! website as a Lighthouse Waterwise School of Excellence, and will receive a plaque acknowledging your status.
You will also:
- be eligible to be considered for a $5000 award†
- receive the benefit of any media coverage generated from an NRW media release.
- be notified of new materials as they become available.
You may also be contacted and included on the Water: Learn it for life! website as a case study of a school demonstrating best practice in water-saving attitudes and behaviour.

Maintaining your status
To maintain your status as a Lighthouse Waterwise School of Excellence, you must update your information annually.
