Strategy area
The strategy area (PDF, 476K)* of approximately 356 080 km2 includes the southern catchments of the Gulf of Carpentaria in Queensland, as well as Mornington Island and the upper reaches of the Diamantina and parts of the Georgina Rivers. The following drainage basins are either wholly or partly within the strategy area:
- Flinders
- Gilbert
- Leichhardt
- Morning
- Mornington
- Nicholson
- Norman
- Settlement
- Staaten
- Diamantina
- Georgina.
To investigate water needs and supply options, the draft strategy divides the area into the following sub-regions:
- Mount Isa
- Flinders/Cloncurry
- Carpentaria.
