Fitzroy water quality report released

In January/February 2008 parts of Central Queensland were hit by significant floods affecting much of the Bowen Basin area of Central Queensland, particularly in the Nogoa and Belyando rivers.

The department collects, manages and delivers data on the quantity and quality of fresh water in the state’s streams and aquifers, as the basis for water resource planning and water management activities.

How water is monitored

The water monitoring program collects accurate data on the quality and quantity of the state's fresh water resources. The program operates under a certified quality management system to ensure public confidence in the data and in the department’s water planning and management activities.

Supporting water resource planning

Together with water licence holders, the department conducts water monitoring and assessment activities to support water resource planning. Each water resource plan and resource operations plan specifies details of the monitoring requirements for the related catchment.
