Bore construction standards
In Queensland, all bores must comply with the minimum construction requirements for water bores in Australia, which give drillers information and a technical standard for constructing water bores.
The document was prepared by the National Minimum Bore Specifications Committee, which consists of representatives from the drilling industry and each state and territory of Australia.
Bores in artesian basins
Bores in artesian basins must also comply with the minimum standards for the construction and reconditioning of water bores that intersect the sediments of artesian basins in Queensland (PDF, 360K)*.
These standards apply to both artesian and subartesian water bores intersecting artesian water beds in the areas shown.
The main additional requirements of these standards are that:
- all bores must be fully cased, and grout-sealed from within 30 m above the water bed to the surface
- bores in water bore corrosion areas must also be constructed using inert casing to protect the underground water from contamination and pressure loss due to corroded casing and headworks.
