Regional water infrastructure

The Queensland Government Statewide Water Policy commits $496 million to regional water projects, complementing the South East Queensland Water Grid and improving water supplies in regional and rural Queensland.

Regional water infrastructure projects

In December 2007, the Governor-in-Council approved the Establishment of Program of Works, Statewide Water Grid, Regional Water Infrastructure Projects, Notification (No 3) 2007 (2007 Program of Works (PDF)*) for regional water infrastructure projects.

The Program of Works was established to investigate the development of specified projects through to business case stage. 

The eleven initiatives identified under the Statewide Water Policy are:

On 5 January 2010, administrative responsibility for the Program of Works projects was transferred from the Department of Infrastructure and Planning (DIP) to the Department of Environment and Resource Management.

In June 2011, following a review by DERM and the Coordinator-General, the Program of Works was amended (2011 Program of Works (PDF)*) to reflect current project and State needs, timelines and management.
