Vegetation management offsets
In certain circumstances, vegetation offsets provide a mechanism for development to proceed while ensuring the long-term conservation of remnant regional ecosystems.
Amendments have been made to the Department of Environment and Resource Management's Policy for Vegetation Management Offsets (PDF, 303K)* under the Vegetation Management Act 1999. The amended policy took effect on 30 September 2011.
Under the Regional Vegetation Management Codes, offsets may be a means of meeting relevant performance requirements once an applicant has demonstrated that they have avoided clearing, or the extent of clearing has been minimised where it cannot be avoided.
Previous offset policies are now superseded.
