North Stradbroke Island is a Queensland icon and favourite getaway with an exciting range of holiday and recreational experiences for everyone. The island features spectacular rocky headlands offering stunning ocean views, not to mention long stretches of white sandy beaches, freshwater lakes, rolling surf and tranquil bayside waters.

One of the largest sand islands in the world, North Stradbroke Island forms the eastern boundary of Moreton Bay, along with South Stradbroke Island, Moreton Island and Bribie Island. The island is surrounded by the waters of Moreton Bay Marine Park—used extensively for recreational and commercial activities such as boating, diving, fishing and tourism. From the island’s rocky headlands visitors regularly see humpback whales, manta rays and marine turtles, while threatened species such as the dugong and grey nurse shark occur in nearby waters.

Situated only 40 km from Brisbane at the southern end of Moreton Bay, the island is easily accessed from Cleveland by vehicle ferries and water taxis that link to the township of Dunwich. Regular services are available with the journey by water taxi taking 25 minutes; the ferry taking about 50 minutes.

For more information about things to do on the island, refer to the North Stradbroke Island visitor guide (PDF, 1.4M)*.

There are many holiday accommodation options available at Dunwich, Amity Point and Point Lookout, which range across resorts, holiday units and houses, backpacker hostels, a hotel and campgrounds. Local council-managed campgrounds are available at Amity Point and Point Lookout. For more information on the island’s access and accommodation, visit the more2redlands website
