Preliminary Assessment of Selected Data Associated with Dingo Research & Management
Thirty-two dingoes were humanely destroyed in 2001, most following the death of a child; and in the subsequent seven years (2002-08), 49 dingoes (mean 7 dingoes/year) were classified as ‘dangerous’ and humanely destroyed and another 37 dingoes died from other causes (vehicle, dingo, unknown). The total dingo mortality rate from all causes recorded over eight years (2001-08) was 15 dingoes/year. The actual total dingo mortality rate per year is likely to be greater because not all deaths in the forest would have been recorded.
