Queensland Turtle Conservation Project, Wreck Rock Study 2005-2006

Wreck Rock Beach is one of the established index beaches for monitoring marine turtle nesting in eastern Australia. During the monitoring period of the 2005-2006 nesting season a total of 75 tagged turtles were recorded, including 62 loggerhead, 11 green and 2 flatback turtles. No leatherback turtles were recorded. Results indicate that the nesting population of loggerhead turtles at Wreck Rock Beach has stabilised following the population decline observed since the 1970s.
