Validation
On completion of mapping, the attributes of the land use dataset are independently validated using a modified version of the procedure described in the Land Use Mapping at Catchment Scale: Principles, Procedures and Definitions booklet – Edition 3 (BRS, July 2006).
- Validation points are assigned randomly to those land use classes occupying an area greater than 2% of the catchment.
- The number of points assigned to a class is proportional to the area that a particular class occupies in the catchment.
- Error matrices are produced to determine overall accuracy-at least 80% is required for the map to be accepted.
