Maps and products
Land use datasets are available for 1999 for all catchments in Queensland and for 2004 for selected catchments. The nominal scale for both years is 1:50,000 in the coastal zone and high intensity land use areas, and 1:100,000 in the pastoral zone and low intensity land use areas.
1999 Land Use Dataset
The 1999 land use dataset is a consistent and seamless statewide layer that is fundamental for natural resource management in Queensland. It also forms the base for mapping land use change between 1999 and 2004. The 1999 land use data is further described in a technical report.
1999 mapping covers 79 major drainage catchments in Queensland and is based on the Australian Land Use and Management Classification (ALUM) Version 5. Figure 1 shows the Primary land use classes across Queensland. Datasets for each catchment were mosaicked to produce the statewide land use map, hence data can be provided for specific catchments or the entire state. A metadata document is available for each catchment.

Land use change mapping between 1999 and 2004 is currently underway in priority catchments. 2004 mapping is based on the Australian Land Use and Management Classification (ALUM) Version 6.
The products for this project include:
- improved land use data for 1999;
- 2004 land use maps; and
- datasets for land use change between 1999 and 2004.
The catchments shown in Figure 2 have been completed to 2004. Priority for future 2004 mapping is given to catchments that:
- are likely to have undergone substantial land use changes since 1999; and/or
- are supported through collaborative partnerships.

Data Format and Access
Land use mapping products for 1999 are provided in digital format as ArcGIS shapefiles.
2004 land use datasets are currently available in Erdas Imagine format (.img)
Hard Copy Maps at A0 size showing the 1999 land use map for Queensland are available for cost, which is currently $12.65.
