Titles—for the public
Title search and copy of document or plan
By paying the regulated search fee you can obtain:
- a title search of a block of land or a water allocation; or
- a copy of document or plan held in the Titles Registry
Completing and lodging forms
Property transactions relating to land and water allocations are recorded by registering properly completed land registry forms.
Lodged forms must be accurate, legally correct, and submitted in the correct sequence for the transaction before they can be registered. Find out more about completing and lodging forms.
Calculating lodgement fees
You can use the online calculator to calculate the lodgement fees payable on commonly lodged land registry forms.
Releasing a mortgage
When a mortgage that uses property to secure a loan is repaid, the mortgagee will sign a document to release the property from the mortgage. The owner is usually responsible for releasing a mortgage from the title to the property.
Certificate of title
The original title to property is held in the Automated Titles System maintained by the Department of Environment and Resource Management. Though you no longer need a paper copy of your certificate of title as proof of ownership, you can still obtain one from the Titles Registry on request.
