Surveying

Ambulatory boundaries 

The department administers legislation which sets out the feature based methods for surveying land adjoining water.  These survey methods cover boundaries of land adjoining tidal water and non-tidal watercourses.

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)

GNSS, which include satellite and ground infrastructure and equipment used to determine geographic positions on earth are being employed in many applications to determine positions all over Queensland. The department is the lead agency for GNSS in Queensland.

Survey standards

In Queensland, the department is responsible for establishing standards for surveying, with which registered surveyors must comply.

Fundamental data

The department maintains computer information systems fundamental to all survey activities in the state. These include survey control data, digital cadastral data and the State Geodetic Network.

Geocentric datum of Australia

Surveys, maps, charts and spatial data applications require a coordinate reference system called a geodetic datum so they can be located in their correct position on the earth's surface.

GDA conversion software

The department maintains free software to assist in the transformation of spatial information from AGD66 and AGD84 to GDA94.

Permanent survey marks

Permanent survey marks are major reference marks placed by surveyors and govenrment authorities to assist in locating property boundaries and support for projects such as road construction, map production and mining development.

Products and services 

The Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) offers a range of products and services to assist Queensland surveyors.

Surveying alerts 

The Surveying Alert is an electronic update alerting customers to recent legislative or policy changes and other developments relevant to surveyors.
