Background
DERM is currently considering a proposal to formally name an unnamed creek as Pages Creek and an unnamed lookout as McCarthy Lookout within the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
Pages Creek rises high in the slopes of the Conondale Range and flows generally in an easterly direction for about five kilometres until its confluence with the Stanley River. The creek is signposted as Pages Creek at the point it crosses River Road about five kilometres west of the Peachester township in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
The creek name originates from Charles Edward Page and Edwin Page who acquired Portion 230 (156 acres) and Portion 228 (328 acres) respectively, Parish of Durundur, during the 1920’s. The creek flows through both of these properties and it is proposed to formally name the feature in honour of the Page family. Some of the Page family descendents still reside in the Peachester district.
McCarthy Lookout is located on Mountain View Road, about two kilometres south of Maleny where the feature is signposted as McCarthy Lookout.
The lookout name originates from Joseph McCarthy who acquired Portion 1221 (630 acres), Parish of Maleny in 1883 and the property was held in the McCarthy family name until 1954. The lookout is situated on the southern edge of this property and it is proposed to formally name the feature in honour of the pioneering McCarthy family.
