Proposal to name the suburb of Charters Towers City in the Regional Council of Charters Towers

The Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) is seeking public comment on the proposal to create the suburb of Charters Towers City to replace the current suburb of Lissner and include parts of the suburbs of Queenton, Grand Secret and Richmond Hill within the Regional Council of Charters Towers local government area. 

The new suburb Charters Towers City is shown on map QPN1179 (PDF, 666K)*.

All interested parties are invited to comment on the proposal.

Background

DERM administers the Place Names Act 1994 under which the Minister for Finance, Natural Resources and The Arts may name a place or change the name of a place.

The department has received a request to create the suburb of Charters Towers City to include the suburb of Lissner and parts of the suburbs of Grand Secret, Richmond Hill and Queenton in the Regional Council of Charters Towers local government area.
