Digital orthophoto image data coverage
What are Orthophotos?
Orthophotos are images resulting from the ortho-rectification of aerial photographs based on a digital terrain model or digital elevation model.
The ortho-rectification process aims to remove the effects of aerial camera lens tip and tilt, image scale variations, and object displacements due to ground relief. This is accomplished by reprocessing the photograph to conform to the orthographic projection, hence the name, orthophoto.
These digital orthophoto image data tiles are georeferenced and can therefore be used as a backdrop layer in conjunction with other spatial information.
Coverage
The department has an ongoing program to make available high-resolution orthophoto image data at various resolutions over priority areas of the state and over areas where joint agreements have been established.
The current extent of digital orthophoto image data (PDF, 500K)* generated by the department also displays other associated metadata such as photography capture date and resolution.
Coordination of acquisition
Please visit Imagery coordination for more information on the acquisition of spatial imagery in Queensland.
Formats available
Orthophotos are available in uncompressed Tiff or compressed ECW format typically at pixel sizes (Ground Sampling Distance) of 0.6m and 2.5m. A 1:100000 size tile is available (ECW only) over many project areas at a GSD of 0.6m.
