The department produces a range of environmental and natural resource data that is made available to its customers.
Some mapping and databases are available free of charge for viewing or requesting online.
Environmental mapping and databases
The department has the following online environmental mapping and databases websites for users to access.
Apiary Sites Maps Online
The website allows you to view maps that show the current distribution and status of apiary sites on protected areas where beekeeping is allowed.
Areas of Ecological Significance
The following Regional Plans are currently covered by this mapping :
- Far North Queensland
A comprehensive mapping exercise has been undertaken for parts of Queensland in order to highlight the areas of ecological significance (AES) where policies will apply under the Regional Plans, other planning instruments and development assessment under the Integrated Planning Act 1997 (Qld) (IPA).
Environmentally Sensitive Areas Maps for Mining and Petroleum
This website enables you to select an area of interest and obtain a geographical map displaying environmentally sensitive areas in portable document format (PDF) that can be e-mailed to a valid e-mail address.
EPA's IPA/IDAS advice agency referrals
The department has an advice agency role under the Integrated Development Assessment System (IDAS) in relation to the following areas:
- Wetlands
- Conservation Estate managed by the department
Koala Plan Maps
This website enables you to view maps of koala habitat areas within South East Queensland from the Koala Plan and create a map of your property or street in portable document format (PDF) that can be e-mailed to a valid e-mail address.
Regional ecosystem database and maps
The regional ecosystems classification scheme and associated mapping have been developed to assist government, business and the community to incorporate biodiversity into planning and management. The framework is used in a wide range of applications including the Vegetation Management Act 1999, delineation of environmentally sensitive areas for mining, Biodiversity Planning Assessments and regional planning schemes (e.g. local government, natural resource management bodies).
- Regional Ecosystem Description Database (REDD)
This site provides the user with the ability to search, view or download a range of attributes for each regional ecosystem including its description, vegetation and biodiversity status, ecological values, distribution and wetland classification. - Regional Ecosystem Data (REDATA)
This website enables the user to obtain digital data of the remnant regional ecosystem (RE) mapping for a specified area defined by Lot on Plan. The data is e-mailed to a valid e-mail address as ESRI shapefile format for up to three Lot on Plans at a time. - Regional Ecosystem Maps (REMAPS) or Regrowth Vegetation Map
This website enables you to select an area of interest and obtain a Regional Ecosystem Map (REMAP) and an Essential Habitat Map or a Regrowth Vegetation and Property Map of Assessable Vegetation (PMAV) Map in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) that can be e-mailed to a valid e-mail address.
Wetland maps and data
This website enables you to:
1. Select an area of interest and obtain digital wetland mapping data in ESRI shapefile format for up to three Lot on Plans at a time e-mailed to a valid e-mail address.
2. Access pre-made 1:100,000 scale maps in portable document format (PDF).
3. Select an area of interest and obtain a Wetland Map in portable document format (PDF) e-mailed to a valid e-mail address.
Wildlife Online
This website enables you to access a list of wildlife that the department has recorded for areas such as protected areas (national parks, conservation parks etc.), forestry areas (State forests and timber reserves) and local government areas, or areas defined by the user using coordinates (latitudes and longitudes). The list created in portable document format (PDF) or a text file can be e-mailed to a valid e-mail address.
Accessing other environmental information
The department has a process for acquiring other environmental data including GIS layers.
Use the following links to order geographical information system data:

- Order form for environmental GIS datasets
For further information contact the Data Coordinator (data.coordinator@epa.qld.gov.au).
Interactive Resource and Tenure Maps site (IRTM)
A spatially enabled search for reports, manuals and maps is available from the Interactive Resource and Tenure Maps site (IRTM). This site allows the user to search for information over an area of interest and discover report details, mapping scale and availability of digital data. Search results are linked to the QDEX site allowing direct access to the reports and maps of the area of interest.
Water streamflow data
Current and historical water streamflow data for activities such as event-based water management under water resource plans and resource operations plans is now available from the department's water monitoring network.
