Imagery coordination

The Queensland Government recognizes the value of, and need for, spatial imagery to support public administration. Therefore, the department is coordinating spatial imagery acquisition and has established a method of funding spatial imagery acquisition by a subscription plan to enable pro-active coordination of imagery acquisition projects.

The Spatial Imagery Subscription Plan for spatial imagery acquisition aims to achieve better value for money by coordinating resources and better return on investment by maximizing the use of imagery. Coordination of spatial imagery will include high resolution aerial and satellite imagery and lower resolution satellite imagery. Through spatial imagery, the coordination of the various levels of government and private organisations can reduce duplication of imagery acquisition and by cost sharing reduce overheads to individual organisations.

The Queensland Spatial Imagery Acquisition Plan, developed in conjunction with the Office of Economic and Statistical Research in treasury, the QSIC Spatial Imagery Working Group and other users, identifies imagery required to support public administration at all levels of government in Queensland. The Plan is implemented via the Queensland Spatial Imagery Acquisition Program (PDF, 598K)* to ensure regional coverage is maintained and acquisition of imagery at different resolutions is scheduled to optimise currency over the maintenance cycle.
