Status of trails and roads in the Misty Mountains
This alert is valid from 18 August 2009 to 31 December 2009 (inclusive) and it applies to the following parks:
Clean up and repair works are still underway from the aftermath of Cyclones Ellie and Charlotte earlier this year. Walkers should ensure they are prepared for fallen trees and missing track markers. They should be capable of fully independent navigation without relying on track markers or existing track pads.
Hinson Creek and Carter Creek campgrounds may be overgrown and difficult to locate. Bush camping is permitted at any alternative site in these areas.
All sealed roads are open. K-Tree Road and Cochable Creek Road('H'Road) are open to conventional vehicles, while Sutties Gap, Malaan, Bora Ground and Maple Creek roads are open to 4WD vehicles only. Exercise caution as the roads can become slippery and fallen trees are common.
Details of tracks closed:
Cannabullen Creek track (blue track) The track is closed from the junction with the Cardwell Range track (red track) south to Carter Creek campground. Other sections of the track remain open.
Koolmoon Creek track (orange track) The track is closed from Walters Waterhole campground to Cochable Creek campground until further notice. Other sections of the track remain open.
