The government consulted extensively with community stakeholders as part of its commitment to developing the South East Queensland Forests Agreement. Community consultation groups included representatives from Indigenous groups, local government, conservation, recreation and other community interests.

The Agreement area was divided into planning areas, and community consultation groups established for each area to advise the Minister on the appropriate class and management arrangements for each forest reserve.

QPWS and community groups held more than 120 meetings, workshops and field trips during 2000–03.

Regular meetings provided a forum for discussing issues, sharing understanding of forest values, and developing a common vision of the values of the reserves.

Separate consultation processes involving QPWS, the Department of Primary Industries, industry representatives and other stakeholders considered the future of grazing, beekeeping, and foliage harvesting on the Forest Agreement reserves, and advised the government on these matters.
