Sustainability Guidelines for Expressions of Interest

The Sustainability Guidelines have been developed to ensure the nature-based tourism opportunities associated with this project are ecologically, socially and economically sustainable. The Sustainability Guidelines encourage proposals that demonstrate harmony and integration with the natural and cultural values of the site through appropriate facility layout and design; construction materials and methodologies; energy, water and waste management; and operational and visitor protocols and activities. The guidelines outline key sustainability issues that should be addressed and the benchmarks that Government will use to assess performance.

An independent consultant was commissioned to develop the benchmarks and other supporting information for the Expression of Interest (EOI) and Request for Proposal (RFP) stages of this project. The consultant has drawn on technical experience and best practice approaches from Australia and overseas including sustainability and ecotourism certification schemes.
