Welcome
Traditional Owners have a long and on-going relationship with the area that falls under Queensland’s national parks and forests. In order to acknowledge the important connection with Aboriginal people, the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) urges visitors to treat the country through which they walk with respect and care.
Location
The Cooloola Recreation Area lies between the coastal towns of Tewantin (near Noosa) and Rainbow Beach (just south of Fraser Island). Tewantin is approximately 155 km (about 2 hours) drive north of Brisbane. Rainbow Beach is 240 km (about 3 hours) north of Brisbane.
What's special
The Cooloola Great Walk showcases the very best of the recreation area's outstanding natural attractions. Up to 102 km long, this extensive walking track system winds through rainforest, tall eucalypt forest, dry coastal woodland and heath plains.
