Camping in Currawinya National Park
Camp at a waterhole beside the Paroo River.

Visitors can bush camp at Ourimperee Waterhole behind the Woolshed or at several sites on the Paroo River near Caiwarro.
Camping permits are required and fees apply. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite.
Park-specific conditions
- All campgrounds are closed when the Paroo River floods.
- Do not collect firewood from the national park—penalties apply. Bring your own clean mill off-cuts or use fuel stoves instead.

Bush camping
Campground features: All camping areas in Currawinya National Park are beside waterholes, where you can go swimming, fishing, canoeing, birdwatching and bushwalking.
Location: Ourimperee waterhole is behind the Currawinya Woolshed. The other sites are on the Paroo River near Caiwarro, at the park's northern end.
Access: The camp sites can be reached by high clearance conventional vehicle. They are accessible with care for trailers, caravans, and small buses. It is possible to drive onto most camp sites.
Number of sites: Open area without separately defined sites.
Campsites are suitable for: tent camping beside your car; walk-in camping; caravans; camper trailers; small motorhomes and large groups. Currawinya has a limit of 15 people and six vehicles per group.
Camp site surface: Sand, dirt.
Facilities:
- Ourimperee waterhole: Cold bush showers, flushing toilets nearby at woolshed.
- Caiwarro waterhole: No facilities
- Pump Hole: No facilities
- Corni Paroo waterhole: Picnic tables, pit toilet at Caiwarro Ruins.
Open fires: Allowed (except when fire bans apply) but fuel stoves recommended.
Generators: Not permitted.
Essentials to bring: Bring at least seven litres of water per person, per day for drinking, cooking and washing. Local water is NOT suitable for drinking. Bring rubbish bags, and take all recyclables and rubbish with you when you leave. Bins are not provided. Bring your own untreated, clean mill off-cuts for firewood, or preferably bring a fuel or gas stove for cooking.
Bookings: Obtain permits and pay camping fees at the park office (formerly the Currawinya homestead), 20 km north of the township of Hungerford, or at the self-registration stand near Caiwarro Ruins. Please contact the park one week before your trip to confirm road and weather conditions.
