Camping in Amamoor State Forest

There are two camping areas in Amamoor State Forest—Cedar Grove camping area and Amamoor Creek camping area. Both are accessed by unsealed roads that are suitable for conventional vehicles. Grassy campsites are located in rainforest and open forest settings.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite.

Park-specific conditions

Rubbish bins are not provided in Amamoor State Forest. Take all your rubbish out of the park for appropriate disposal. The nearest refuse transfer station: Amamoor-Kandanga Road, 1km south of Amamoor township. Open daily Monday to Sunday.

Dogs (on a leash) are permitted at Amamoor Creek camping area only.

If you plan to camp at Amamoor Creek camping area in August contact the Gympie office first. The entire camping area is used for the annual Country Music Muster, a major event that runs for one week in August and attracts thousands of visitors.

Bring a fuel stove for cooking. If you want to use the barbecues or fire rings you will need to bring your own clean, milled firewood. It is illegal to collect firewood from the forest.

Campground features: Open grassy camping area beside riverine rainforest, tall open forest and Amamoor Creek.

Location: Travel 12 km west from Amamoor township along the Amamoor Creek Road to Cedar Grove camping area.

Access: The access road is unsealed and suitable for conventional vehicles.

Number of sites: Open area without separately defined sites.

Campsites are suitable for: tent camping beside your car; walk-in camping; caravans; camper trailers; campervans; motor homes; large groups.

Campsite surface: Grass.

Facilities: Water (unsuitable for drinking without treatment as it is pumped from the creek and may contain organisms that can cause illness), toilets, cold showers, barbecues, individual fire rings (bring your own clean-cut firewood), walking tracks, pay phone.

Open fires: Allowed (except when fire bans apply) in barbecues and fire rings only. Fuel stoves are recommended.

Generators: Not allowed.

Essentials to bring: Drinking water, rubbish bags, insect repellent. Read more about things to know before you go.

Bookings: Book online, over-the-counter or by phone.

Mobile phone coverage: Not available. A pay phone is located on the back of camping area registration stand.

Campground features: Open grassy camping area in tall open forest featuring iron bark and blue gum. Dogs are permitted here.

Location: Travel 16 km west from Amamoor township along the Amamoor Creek Road to Amamoor Creek camping area. About 4 km west of Cedar Grove camping area.

Access: The access road is unsealed and suitable for conventional vehicles.

Number of sites: Open area without separately defined sites.
