Indigenous Natural Resource Management Policy Unit
The Indigenous Natural Resource Management Policy Unit provides advice to the Queensland government about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander interests in natural resource management. Its functions include:
- providing policy support and advice on the implementation of Partnerships Queensland as it relates to the work of Natural Resources and Water.
- leading the implementation of the Looking After Country Together strategy and Implementation plan to increase Indigenous peoples' access to country and their participation in the management of land and sea.
- providing policy support and advice on the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Advancing Reconciliation in Primary Industries and Natural Resource Management initiative.
- providing policy support and advice on government documents, draft policies and cabinet submissions as they relate to Indigenous interests in natural resource management.
- supporting the department with policy advice regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander interests and involvement in natural resource management.
- supporting implementation of election commitments relating to Cape York including tenure resolution.
- supporting the Director General in his role as Government Champion for the Woorabinda community.
- supporting the Director General's participation on the Strong Indigenous Communities CEO Committee.
- consultation and engagement with Indigenous stakeholders regarding their interests in and aspirations for participation in natural resource management.
