NTCO meetings
Throughout the year Indigenous Services may hold meetings with all native title contact officers (NTCOs) to discuss relevant issues and disseminate information. The frequency of the meetings depends on the issues arising through the year.
The meetings are run by the Policy unit of Indigenous Services. Topics covered include:
- updates on native title claims and draft determinations
- explanations of new legal cases
- interpretations of native title legislation
- progress on the review of the Native Title Work Procedures
- topical issues such as the status of Native Title Representative Bodies, information required in native title notifications
- presentations on the history of native title and new developments.
The meetings are meant to help you in your role as an NTCO so the topics covered need to be relevant. To ensure relevancy, two weeks before each meeting an email is sent to all NTCOs requesting suggestions for the agenda. NTCOs are encouraged to participate in this process.
A few days after the meeting, the meeting memorandum is emailled to all NTCOs. The memorandum summarises the topics discussed at the meeting and lists action items which you as the NTCO or officers in your department/agency need to complete by a certain date.
