Willem Jansz was the first European to sight the present Queensland in the Duyfken. He sailed down the west coast of Cape York Peninsula to Cape Keerweer.

Cook's first landing since Botany Bay was at Bustard Bay near Bundaberg.

Cook claimed possession of the east coast of New South Wales under the name of King George III
1824
John Oxley, after previously exploring the Brisbane River, was sent from Sydney to Moreton Bay to establish a penal colony at Humpybong on the Redcliffe Peninsula.
