Retention of native vegetation
Management Activity
The retention of native vegetation is critical for the maintenance of biodiversity. Native vegetation is an important component of the ecological (interactions between organisms and between organisms and their physical environment) and biophysical processes that provide ecosystem services, such as nutrient cycling, carbon sequestration and organic matter decay.
The direct impacts of native vegetation retention may include:
- Maintained deep-rooted perennials trees and shrubs
- Maintained ground cover
- Maintained canopy cover
- Maintained habitat connectivity
- Maintained riparian vegetation
