Dairy farming

Enterprise or production system

In this context, dairy farming has been considered separately because it can be both an intensive animal production system and an intensive grazing system.  Most dairy production occurs in higher rainfall coast and hinterland areas where climate and natural resources allow year-round pasture grazing.  Although not common, some dairies do adopt a feedlot system where cows spend the majority of time housed in pens.
