More Moreton Island campers moved as a precaution

Campers at the north east corner of Moreton Island have this afternoon been advised to move as a precaution, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) said today.
QPWS Moreton Bay Acting Regional Manager Anthony Contarino said campers with bookings should consider other areas on the island that have not been affected by fire, such as south of Middle Road.
"Campers who have already made bookings in the northern half are advised to contact Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service on 13 QGOV (13 7468) before travelling to the Island," Mr Contarino said.
Mr Contarino said campers at Yellow Patch and North Point campgrounds were asked to relocate after the fire breached the Bulwer-Blue Lagoon Road.
This follows this morning's update that campers between Middle Road and Blue Lagoon along the eastern beach had already been relocated as a precautionary measure after the fire moved east.
Mr Contarino said crews were putting in tremendous efforts to contain the fire.
"The fire still has not breached Middle Road and has not entered the southern half of the island," he said
"It breached the containment line of the Bulwer-Blue Lagoon Road earlier today and is burning slowly on a narrow front towards the north-east.
"This fire movement does not present an immediate threat to community safety.
"The campers at Yellow Patch and North Point campgrounds were asked to relocate as a precaution only.
"There is no threat to the Cape Moreton lighthouse or its surrounding buildings.
"The public can be assured that firefighters will continue to work towards containing the fire.
"There are about 230 campers at North Point and 100 at Yellow Patch.
"Queensland Police and State Emergency Service officers are providing support for the relocation of campers along the eastern beach to campsites south of Middle Road.
"The fire, which started from a vehicle fire on 4 January, has burnt about 3000 hectares of the 19,000 hectare island," Mr Contarino said.
