Tripcony Hibiscus Master Plan
The Tripcony Hibiscus Master Plan was finalised by the Queensland Government on 6 May 2008. It was determined that the most appropriate use of the Tripcony Hibiscus Caravan Park site was for it to remain as a caravan park.
The caravan park, which fronts the Pumicestone Passage in Caloundra, was under threat given its high-value coastal location.
The department and Caloundra City Council commissioned an independent multi-disciplinary team led by Queensland-based consultants, the AEC group, to prepare the Master Plan to consider the future of the site.
Stakeholders and the community were invited to comment on the plan, which aimed to preserve Caloundra’s coastal atmosphere and address the community’s social, economic and environmental aspirations through best practice urban design and planning.
As a result of the plan, a new 30-year lease will be offered and negotiated with the current leaseholder of the site. The new lease arrangement will require the leaseholder to retain at least 50 per cent of the available site area as tourist accommodation and comply with relevant legislation.
The new lease will also allow for the completion of the Coastal Walk that stretches along the seafront of the Caloundra region.
