- Statewide Land Cover and Trees Study

The Land cover change in Queensland 2007–08 report has been released and covers the first full annual period since the Queensland Government ended broadscale remnant clearing on 31 December 2006. The report shows an annual woody vegetation clearing rate of 123 000 hectares per year which is a 48 per cent decrease in clearing across the State.

The Great Barrier Reef Protection Amendment Act 2009 introduces regulations to improve the quality of water entering the Great Barrier Reef. It targets sugarcane growing and cattle grazing properties in the Burdekin Dry Tropics, Wet Tropics and Mackay Whitsundays catchments in North Queensland.
- New laws for clearing regrowth vegetation

The moratorium on clearing high-value regrowth ended on 7 October 2009. The new arrangements take effect from 8 October 2009 and provide a consistent framework for protecting high-value regrowth vegetation across freehold, Indigenous and leasehold land.
