Overview
Our business
As the agency responsible for managing the commercial sale of State-owned native forest products and quarry materials, DERM Forest Products aims to:
Maximise financial returns to the State from the sale of native forest products and quarry material from State lands within social, environmental and cultural expectations.
Our operational role is to:
- manage the commercial sale of forest products in line with the outcomes of the South East Queensland Forests Agreement (SEQFA) and the Statewide Forests Process (SFP).
- enhance access to State-owned quarry resources to support infrastructure development projects
- improve the efficiency of commercial management of State-owned forest resources
- ensure that all native forest and quarry activities on State lands comply with relevant environmental legislation and applicable codes of practice.
How we do this
We have been granted access rights to native forests on designated State land in four forest management areas in Queensland for:
- selling log timber where harvesting is permitted to meet allocations subject to:
- relevant legislation
- the outcomes of the SEQFA and the SFP
- operational compliance with codes of practice
- selling quarry material (including on State plantation forests) subject to relevant approvals and consistent with relevant legislation
- selling other forest products such as foliage, seed, plants, specialty timbers and firewood
- undertaking forest protection (with respect to fire, pests and diseases)
- constructing and maintaining roads to support timber harvesting
- administering stock grazing and apiary permits.
Our performance
Each year, we publish a pocket-size guide summarising our performance and achievements.
Note: On 26 March 2009, the former Department of Natural Resources and Water (NRW) and the former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) were amalgamated to form the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM). As a result of this amalgamation, NRW Forest Products became DERM Forest Products. The following documents were produced before this change of name.
