Workplace health and safety
DERM Forest Products works hard to provide a workplace and conduct its business activities in a manner which:
- protects the health, safety and wellbeing of all staff, clients, contractors and visitors
- promotes safety awareness and practices
- encourages risk assessment and minimisation in work practices
- does not compromise health, safety or environmental standards in the community.
With respect to forest-based operations, we seek to ensure that all relevant persons are aware of their obligations under the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 and the associated Forest Harvesting Code of Practice 2007. This code, published and monitored by the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General, specifies work practices and procedures to manage risk exposure in connection with harvesting, snigging, loading and transporting forest products, as well as risks to anyone visiting a harvesting area.
In addition to ensuring that our own employees are adequately trained and fully implement the code from a contractual perspective, we also monitor the compliance of permittees in fulfilling their safety obligations with respect to forest harvesting operations. All staff engaged in harvesting activities are required to hold basic national competency accreditation for safety and environmental management.
