Reporting of licensed discharges to waterways

The department has developed a Point Source Database (PSD) to improve the tracking of licensed discharges to waters.
Licensees of discharges to water are usually required to measure concentrations of pollutants such as nutrients, organic matter, suspended solids, pathogens, and chlorine in addition to measuring release volumes. In most cases, these measurements have to be compared to limits (such as maximums, minimums or short/long-term medians and percentiles) specified in the licence to assess compliance.
The PSD allows licensees to email their monitoring data to the database on a regular basis. The data is automatically checked against limits and a monitoring report is produced and sent back to the licensee. The data is stored in the database and can then be used for a range of other uses. The objective of the PSD is to capture data from all licensed discharges in Queensland. The status for the database implementation is shown below.
Data is available to the department staff, other organisations and the community on request.
Point Source Database Implementation Status
- Major Sewage Treatment Plants (greater than 10,000 equivalent persons) in South East Queensland - completed
- Major Sewage Treatment Plants (greater than 10,000 equivalent persons) in the remainder of Queensland - commenced
