National land and water resources audit
The National Land and Water Resources Audit is a program of the Natural Heritage Trust that aims to provide an appraisal of the condition of Australia's natural resource base. The involvement of the department through Waterways Scientific Services (in conjunction with DPI Fisheries) is to provide physical and biological estuarine data to the audit. This data will contribute to Theme 7, "Waterway, estuarine, catchment and landscape health", which is aimed at assessing and reporting on the health of catchments, rivers, estuaries, floodplains and wetlands. This project has involved obtaining data from numerous sources and combining this with existing the department monitoring data for submission to the audit. Submission of data was completed by March 2001 with Theme 7 completed by June 2001.
