About the new guidelines

The Guidelines for public recycling in shopping centres provide for consistent messages and methods to establish and maintain effective recycling systems in public areas in enclosed retail centres across Australia.

The guidelines have been developed following trials with shopping centres in Queensland, NSW and Victoria building on the successful introduction of back of house recycling systems and increasing commitment to sustainability by many retail centre owners, managers and the community.

The guidelines have been developed by the Packaging Stewardship Forum in partnership with the Queensland Department for Environment and Resource Management, Sustainability Victoria and the National Packaging Covenant.
