Local Councils - Public Place Recycling
DUAL BIN ENCLOSURE REBATE SCHEME - SECOND ROUND
DERM is pleased to announce support for the installation by Councils of Public Place Recycling (PPR) facilities. Under the PPR program funds have been allocated to subsidise the cost of dual bin enclosures for installation by Councils . Councils may also be interested in awareness raising materials and obtaining Bin Caps and Signage.
Local Buy is able to supply dual recycling and waste bin enclosures under Local Buy contract BUS 186-1108. There are (2) two different design options from which to choose. As a result of the competitive tendering by Local Buy there is a 40 - 50% cost reduction upon acquisition of at least 3 dual bin enclosures.

The deadline for the first funding round for the provision of rebates was 31 March 2008. We are pleased to announce a second funding round for the provision of rebates which will be accessible from 01 July 2009 until 31 October 2009
What do Councils need to do?
- In the first instance, Councils will need to contact DERM [publicplace.recycling@epa.qld.gov.au], prior to placing an order with suppliers to confirm rebate provision from DERM, and submit a signed ' Terms and Conditions' form;
- DERM will then send a confirmation email outlining the number of dual bin enclosures for which DERM will provide a rebate.
- When placing the order, Councils will need to notify the selected supplier under Local Buy contract BUS 186-1108 that they will be claiming the rebate from DERM. This will ensure that DERM artwork is affixed to the dual bin enclosures.
How do Councils obtain the rebate?
After the above steps have been completed, Councils will need to submit the following documents to DERM before 31 October 2009
4) proof of purchase (copy of receipt from supplier under Local Buy contract BUS 186-1108 )
5) an invoice to the department for:
- every (3 rd) third dual bin enclosure
- 50% of the cost of transportation
Please Note:
DERM retains the right to limit the availability of the rebate to individual Councils.
New Signage
To join Regions to the State-wide Public Place Recycling program, all Councils with existing dual waste and recycling bin enclosures can now access free 'Do the right thing, Use the right bin' signage to refresh existing enclosures. In partnership with the Packaging Stewardship Forum, DERM will provide signage free of charge. Samples of signage can be found below and can be obtained in the following sizes A4, A3 and A2:
