Local government infrastructure grants
Local government infrastructure grants program
The 2010–11 local government infrastructure grants program targeted high priority sites and prompted local governments to strategically analyse their infrastructure needs.
The funding was split into two phases.
Phase 1 – the local government infrastructure grants program, totalling $2.1 million, was available for the construction of facilities such as weighbridges, a weighbridge office or gatehouse, and software to manage the data.
Phase 2 – the Waste Facilities Assistance Grant Program, totalling $2 million, provided assistance with facility improvements, such as computer hardware and software upgrades, traffic control, small site facilities such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), and security.
Phase 1 and Phase 2 programs are now closed.
Phase 3 - Local Government Weighbridge and Ancillary Equipment Grants Program
A total of $13 million has been allocated to the Local Government Weighbridge and Ancillary Equipment Grants Program over a two-year period.
The primary aim of the program is to assist local governments with installation of infrastructure facilities for the purpose of supplying adequate waste data and to assist compliance with the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011.
This grant program offers funding amounts for four differing size categories to provide an incentive for the investment in infrastructure tools relating to accurate data collection and operational site controls across Queensland.
Category 1 – Weighbridge infrastructure including ancillary equipment for sites that are either:
- a Queensland waste disposal site with a current registration certificate of more than 5000 tonnes of waste in a year at the site; or
- a Queensland transfer station with a current registration certificate and to consequently dispose of more than 5000 tonnes of waste to landfill in a year at the site.
To assess eligibility for this category read the Category 1 Guidelines (PDF, 478K)* and Detailed Data Specification (PDF, 959K)* before completing the application form (Word, 937K)‡.
Applications for Category 1 closed on 15 December 2011.
Category 2 – Associated Infrastructure for sites that are either:
- a Queensland waste disposal site with a current registration certificate of more than 2000 to 5000 tonnes of waste in a year at the site; or
- a Queensland transfer station with a current registration certificate and to consequently dispose of more than 2000 to 5000 tonnes of waste to landfill in a year at the site.
To assess eligibility for this category read the Category 2 Guidelines (PDF, 463K)* and Detailed Data Specification (PDF, 959K)* before completing the application form (Word, 530K)‡.
Applications for Category 2 closed on 15 December 2011.
Category 3 – Associated Infrastructure for sites that are either:
- a Queensland waste disposal site with a current registration certificate of 50 to 2000 tonnes of waste in a year at the site; or
- a Queensland transfer station with a current registration certificate and to consequently dispose of 50 to 2000 tonnes of waste to landfill in a year at the site.
To assess eligibility for this category read the Category 3 Guidelines (PDF, 440K)* before completing the application form (Word, 914K)‡.
Applications for Category 3 closed on 15 December 2011.
Category 4 – Initial volumetric survey assistance for waste disposal sites located in the levy collection zone, that hold a current registration certificate to dispose of 50 to 2000 tonnes of waste in a year at that site.
Applications under this category program are to be lodged at the same time as the volumetric survey results.
To assess eligibility for this category read the Category 4 Guidelines (PDF, 426K)* before completing the application form (Word, 875K)‡.
Applications for category 4 closed on 31 December 2011.
