Recycling infrastructure grants
Grants update
No further grant agreements, subsidies and rebates will be accepted or processed in accordance with the policies of the new government. Applications already approved and notified will be completed.
Under the Waste Avoidance and Resource Efficiency (WARE) fund, a $28 million program will stimulate investment in waste minimisation and resource recovery infrastructure. Competitive grant funding—of amounts between $5000 and $5 million—will be available over the next four years.
The program aims to provide dollar-for-dollar funding (that is, no more than 50 per cent of the infrastructure purchase price) to help business, industry, not-for-profit organisations and local governments adopt better resource management options. Investment can be in fixed or mobile infrastructure (equipment, machinery or plant). Priority will be given to projects that:
- assists transfer stations, materials recovery facilities (MRFs) and recycling centres to improve sorting and recovery processes, create jobs and cost effectively divert new tonnes of waste from landfill
- fills an immediate gap in regional areas requiring recycling infrastructure
- supports the development of efficient waste and recycling industries and associated jobs in Queensland
- increases recovery of priority materials such as packaging, tyres, organics and concrete.
Applications for the waste infrastructure grants have now closed.
