Mr Bob and Mrs Chris Cameron
Managing Directors of Rockcote Enterprises and overall winner of the 2009 Queensland Sustainable Industries Award for Leadership in Business Sustainability.
‘We were delighted to receive the Leadership in Business Sustainability award from Climate Change and Sustainability Minister Kate Jones, on behalf of the Premier of Queensland. The Queensland Sustainable Industries Awards have now become the State’s highest recognition of successful and sustainable business in Queensland. The Awards demonstrate that many visionary Queensland companies like ours are committed to reducing their environmental impact – we feel privileged to be awarded alongside some of these. It has been our dream for Rockcote to grow into a small corporation while remaining friendly to the people that work in it, the community, and the planet. It is wonderful that these Awards, coordinated by the Queensland Government, showcase businesses like ours building their businesses around sustainability principles, and reaping the economic rewards. We have now been recognised at a state, national and international level as the leaders in environmentally friendly paints and coatings. We could not have wished for more.”
Martin Albrecht Thiess
Winner of the 2008 Premiers Award for Leadership in Business Sustainability
When I was informed I was going to be the successful winner of this award, I felt incredibly proud, privileged and immensely humbled.
After listening to presentations from all winners, that feeling was heightened enormously.
I congratulate the Premier and the Queensland Government for their leadership in establishing these awards.
It is important for society to have opportunities like this to recognise people and business for their outstanding performance in environmental sustainability.
We live in a time where there is an obligation to change. Climate change is no longer debated as something that may or may not exist; we accept it as a reality. We see it every day in the extremes of weather that is all around us and across the planet.
I congratulate the Qld Gov and respect what has been accomplished to provide leadership in environmental sustainability within business. Queensland has much to be proud of. I encourage all business to continue to strive for greater environmental excellence and support future Sustainable Industries Awards programs.
Jim McKnoulty, Conics Limited
Winner of the 2007 Premiers Award for Leadership in Business Sustainability.
I was honoured to receive the Premier's Award for Leadership in Business Sustainability. The Award recognised the work of the whole Conics team in realising more sustainable urban growth and infrastructure solutions.
Climate change is a major challenge, but it's also an opportunity for business to profit by helping the community adapt to the challenges it presents.
The department Sustainable Industries Awards provide further incentive for Queensland businesses to champion sustainability, to develop innovative approaches to climate change and to set an example for others.
These Awards sort out the real projects making an environmental contribution, from those that are just using 'greenwash' as a marketing tool. The Awards were established long before climate change became a mainstream community issue, and have an important role to play inspiring and recognising innovation and achievement.
Kerry Shepherd, Landmatters for the EcoVillage at Currumbin
Winner of the 2006 the department Sustainable Industries Award for Leadership in Business Sustainability
Winning the department's Sustainable Industries Awards has really helped our business and our vision - to inspire the development industry to take up the sustainability challenge.
The exposure that winning this Award has generated means that we frequently have private developers and local council officers visiting our Interpretive Centre to find out what the environmental best practices are.
The response has been so positive that recognition by the department for our efforts means that these visiting industry representatives now pay for our consultation services. It is very heartening. The increased exposure has also helped us generate more sales. If you're building your business with sustainability as a foundation, I encourage you to apply for the department Sustainable Industries Awards.
