I installed a hopper on am I eligible for a rebate?
Only hoppers fitted after 5 September 2006 are eligible. You must complete a "By Catch Hopper Rebate Application" which is available from the The department's By-Catch website or email; by.catch@epa.qld.gov.au.

How do I get a rebate?

Can I get the rebate before I fit the hopper?
NO, You must have fitted the hopper first and then submit the application.
How much is the rebate?
80% of the costs of installing the hopper up to $30,000.
How long will it take to get paid?
Within 20 business days from when application is received by EPA.
Marine Safety
Why do I need certificates for design, stability, safety, survey?
Hopper Installation must be compliant with the Transport Operations (Marine Safety) Regulation 2004. For more information contact Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ):

Why do I have to have an accredited surveyor assess my hopper?

Does the rebate cover the costs of accredited marine surveyors, designers and engineering?
Yes, the rebate may cover any costs of accredited marine services required. However, the costs will only be included if they result in a fully installed operational hopper device.
Does the hopper design and installation need to be carried out by accredited marine professionals?
Contact MSQ prior to carrying out any installations or vessel modifications for advice.

Are there still going to be demonstration trials?
No! because the election commitment has been amended removing the mandating of hoppers on Queensland trawlers
What trawlers are eligible for a rebate?
Trawler must have a Queensland East Coast Trawl License. See also Hopper Rebate Guidelines.
