By-catch Project Queensland

Taking By-catch off our beaches

The By-catch Project is a Queensland Government election commitment designed to assist commercial fishing operators minimize the impact of their operations on by-catch inadvertently caught by their trawlers. The objective of the Project is to develop catch handling processes and technologies for Queensland trawlers to reduce the number of fish and other marine life inadvertently killed as by-catch by supporting commercial fishers to install devices known as hoppers on their vessels.
